Seeking God’s direction and guidance

The Sunday News

Sunday sermon, Apostle Chisale
GREETINGS beloved nation in the name of Jesus Christ. I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year and compliments of the new season.

We have entered a new season and a new year. We thank God for His mercies and His goodness to us. Some people were not so fortunate to enter into the New Year, may God comfort those who lost their loved ones in 2021.

The year 2021 was full of ups and downs, challenges and victories, some grew stronger in their walk with God and some back slid, some had their prayers answered and doors were opened for them, and for others their prayers are yet to be answered.

At this time of year when the New Year begins, a lot of people believers and non-believers like to, or think they should, make New Year’s resolutions.

For some people, this is a very helpful exercise to get them focused on what they need to do in the New Year to improve themselves, to make changes in their lives and behaviour, and to progress as a person.

Last week we spoke about how to enter into the gate of the New Year spiritually.

We also said that whosoever takes control of the gate in the crucial first seconds of the New Year determines what happens throughout the year. We spoke about having keys that will open and close gates and doors because the year has got a gate.

Today I want to go further and talk about seeking God’s guidance and direction as we start the year. The bible tells us in Proverbs 19:21 that, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.”

The Amplified Bible says, “Many plans are in a man’s mind, But it is the LORD’S purpose for him that will stand (be carried out).” So meaning while we have our plans of things we want to do during the year, it is important to seek God’s purposes and plans for our life.

When we enter into a new year, we all set goals. We plan how we want the year to go. Even now, some of us are jotting down our expectations, whether it be a new job, marriage, a stronger walk with Christ, buying a home, excelling in school and many other things. Yes, it’s important to think, plan, and avoid being foolish about our future.

But let us not get so wrapped up in our own plans that we forget about God’s plans for us. Remember, He says in Jeremiah 29:11 that, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

So meaning God knows the plans that He has for you — and they are good plans to give you a future and hope! Don’t just lean on your own understanding but seek His will and His paths.

That’s the key to 2022 that is filled with God’s blessings. It is important to plan ahead, and the Bible talks about that in several places.

But even if you’re making plans for this coming year, don’t forget to let God guide you. Remember, God sees the big picture — He sees his overall plan. So, plan ahead. Seek God about your future. And then, remember to submit to the plans He has for your life as He guides you.

The bible tells us in Proverbs 3:5-6 that “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

In other words we should look to God for direction rather than making important decisions all on our own. We should trust God when we do things His way.

We must trust God completely, with our whole heart. In the Bible, the heart usually refers to the inner self, which includes a person’s emotions, motivations, thinking, and attitude.

Therefore, to trust God with all our heart involves more than our feelings. It is a choice we make because we are fully convinced that our Creator knows what is best for us.

We need to trust God because we cannot depend on our own imperfect reasoning. If we rely solely on ourselves or let feelings alone determine our course, we might make choices that initially appear good but ultimately bring bad results. God’s wisdom is far superior to ours.

When we are guided by His thinking, our lives will be successful.

If we study the life of Jesus while he was on earth we will discover that he always did the right thing. He did what the Father told him to. Jesus didn’t have his own personal agenda of what to accomplish while he was here on earth.

He did have a master plan of what he would do, but everything on that plan was dictated and orchestrated by God. Jesus just did and said whatever God told him to.

There are a couple of places where Jesus explains to his followers that he came to do what God wanted him to: So, Jesus explained, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing.

Whatever the Father does, the Son also does,” John 5:19.

I would like to ask you the following questions. What are you seeking from God for this year? What do you want God to do?

Do you have goals and plans you want to achieve? Have you consulted God about your plans for 2022 and even beyond that? Don’t leave God out of your decisions.

This isn’t about New Year’s resolutions; this is about asking God for direction. Every Christian needs God’s direction and guidance in their lives.

The bible tells us in Psalms 32:8 that, “The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.

I will advise you and watch over you” (NLT). That is a promise from our father when we seek Him for guidance and direction for this year 2022.

I would like to invite you to receive Jesus as your personal Lord and saviour, by believing in your heart and confessing with your mouth that he is your Lord and saviour, and you shall be saved.

May God bless you all and this beautiful nation of Zimbabwe. Amen.
