SOUTHERNS women team will be looking at completing a 3-0 whitewash over Northerns when the two teams clash in the last match of the Zimbabwe Women’s Regional One-Day tournament 2022/23 season today at Old Hararians.
Heading into the match with an unassailable lead of 2-0, Southerns will look to continue their dominance which saw them convincingly win the first two matches by 101 runs and 60 runs respectively. In the first match, the triumphant Southerns were bowled out for 206 runs in 45. 3 overs.
The runs were scored by Lady Chevrons star, Sharne Mayers who finished with 84 on the board. Mayers was supported by Christabel Chatonzwa who also scored a half century, falling for 55 runs. The two were the only ones to put notable runs on the board as the third highest scorer had just 12 runs.
Loryn Phiri and Nomvelo Sibanda were outstanding with the ball for the Northerns, taking four and three wickets respectively. Their team, however, failed to get going with the bat as three players got out with ducks. Wicketkeeper, Chiedza Dhururu top scored with 40 runs while the second leading run getter, Ashley Ndiraya had 17 runs.
In the second match, Southerns batting first managed to reach 200 once again, batting all their 50 overs for 215 runs all out. Chatonzwa, once again starred with the bat scoring her second consecutive half century. She scored 56 runs while Mayers fell for 25 runs. Captain Josephine Nkomo chipped in with 41 runs to give her bowlers something to bowl at.
Sibanda, Phiri and Nyasha Gwanzura took two wickets each for the Northerns in the match. Their batters failed to get going again with the top scorer being captain Mary-Anne Musonda with 40 runs while Ashely Ndiraya and Nomvelo Sibanda both scored 32 runs with the team being bowled out for 155 runs in 32. 2 overs.
Loreen Tshuma was the star with ball in hand, taking four wickets for 35 runs in 10 overs and was supported by Precious Marange who took three scalps. Southerns will therefore be looking to assert their dominance over counterparts, Northerns when they clash for the last match today. – Follow on Twitter @brandon_malvin
