ZIFA Southern Region Division One League title aspirants, Talen Vision are in the process of making changes to their technical department with former Premier League coach Mark Mathe likely to be roped into the structures.

Talen Vision president Khumbulani Nkomo said they were in talks with Mathe with a view of engaging him into their technical department.

“We are finalising talks with Mathe, we want him to be part of our technical team, which is currently headed by “Cooper” (Mkhuphali Masuku). Since we are still to finalise talks with him we can’t spell out his role at the moment. Cooper will continue as the coach as he has a four-year contract of which one of his tasks is to build a formidable team to gain promotion into the Premier League,” he said.

Mathe, who has Premiership experience having had spells at Highlanders, Caps United and recently Harare City, was spotted on the bench at a match pitting Vision and Bosso 90 at Crescent Sports Club last Friday. Mathe has been unattached since he was ousted from Harare City in July following a string of poor results after he had taken over reins from British expatriate Mark Harrison.

Nkomo said the team’s assistant coach Xolani “Skweya” Nkundhlande has been moved to become the head coach of the team’s Division Two side while the other assistant, Saul “Soso” Ndlovu has taken a sabbatical from the game.

“Skweya will now be in charge of the Division Two side but he will continue with his role as fitness trainer of the first team while Soso has taken up a new profession at one of our sponsoring companies,” he said.

Vision also recently extended the contract of their Slovakian director of coaching Miroslav Nemec by four years.

The Trukumb Enterprises-sponsored side are in second position on the log on 58 points three points behind the log leaders City who are on 61 points.

Vision led the race for the sole ticket to the elite league for the better part of the season only to falter when they lost 1-0 to their rivals, Bulawayo City and that was followed by another shock defeat at the hands of Indlovu Iyanyathela that put their title aspirations in jeopardy. However, Nkomo remains optimistic about his side’s prospects of gaining promotion.

“We are not yet out of the race, there are three more games to be played and any slip from City we will reclaim the top spot and gain promotion so people shouldn’t count us out,” he said.
