WHILE Kwekwe was brought onto the musical fore by the late great Utakataka Express leader, Tongai Moyo and more recently DJ Stavo — there is much more musical endowment in the Midlands gold mining town.Although the two artistes above have made a significant contribution in the music industry, an upcoming musician, Sindiso Nkomo recently released a gospel project titled The Realm of Worship — which is his second album.

Sunday Leisure Correspondent, Bruce Chimani (BC) caught up with Nkomo (SN), whose music is somehow inspired if not heavily influenced by Charles Charamba, to hear more about his latest offering.

BC: So who is Sindiso Nkomo and how did he fall in love with music?
SN: I come from Zhombe, I was born in 1988 and I started doing music at a tender age of nine.
I made a guitar (banjo) for myself and I also got to be able to compose some simple songs for myself. At school I also joined school choirs and after I had finished my A-level in 2009 in Bulawayo, I had to work on my first album which was later released in October 2011.

BC: Who would you say was of great help in your music from that time?
SN: I would like to thank Pastor Charles Charamba for all the advice and time that he gave me on my first album. I can say Pastors Charamba and Gunda (of Gospel Power) were my sources of inspiration on my first album and I thank God for them because they didn’t hesitate to let me know what this music industry is all about.

BC: You spoke about how your music has changed. Would you expand on that?
SN: Something happened during the period of 2012 to 2014 — our type of music changed, during this period we had to discover more on how God loves worship music.
Our heart as Gotnam Music was driven more towards worship music rather than praise music which we had done on our first album. That’s the period which God had to work on us to come up with this current album.

BC: So what are your hopes with this album?
SN: My brother, we believe in God for greater things, with this album lives of many are going to be changed completely. We believe music draws the attention of God because God loves worship. We are also calling our genre Realm Classic Music RCM.

BC: Any parting words, sir?
SN: I would like to give a big thank you to a man who really inspired and transformed my life in my journey of doing worship music for the Lord — Minister Michael Mahendere. This man of God did many extraordinary things for us and he continues to be of much help.

We did a wonderful concert at the end of last December in Kwekwe with him. He included us in his programme which ran under the theme “Worship Night.” I want to also salute Takesure Zamar Ncube, Pastor T and N Keta, and my spiritual father Prophet Makandiwa and Mother Prophetes Ruth Makandiwa. It’s all because of their covering that I am who I am today. Most importantly I am grateful to God for using us in these times.
