Tarakinyu, Chitate out to defend titles in  Liquor Hub Road Race Olivia Chitate

DEFENDING champions in this morning’s Liquor Hub 10km Road Race, Moses Tarakinyu and Olivia Chitate will be out to defend their titles when the race makes a return.

Over 100 athletes take to Bulawayo’s streets in the race that has a total sponsorship of R50 000. Tarakinyu and Chitate were the winners in the same race when it last took place in December 2019 and are looking to walk away with the R3 500 cash prize, which goes to the winner of the senior women and men’s races.

Also gunning for the top prize are Jonathan Chinyoka and Patience Murove.

Registration has been taking place at the Liquor Hub Wholesale Centre and at the end of day yesterday, the Bulawayo Athletics Board (BAB) declared that 110 athletes had registered.

Some of the runners are coming from as far as Bindura for this morning’s race and will be allowed to register. Covid-19 testing will be conducted before the start of the race.

“We have 110 athletes registered so far, some are still on their way. We are looking forward to have a successful competition,’’ said BAB chairman Watson Madanyika.

The BAB chairman expressed his gratitude to Raj Modi, the propertier of the Liquor Hub Wholesale Centre, the sponsors of the race which is in its sixth edition.

“We would like to thank Honourable Raj Modi for his passion for supporting sport particularly athletics,’’ said Madanyika.
