ONE of the best gospel groups in Zimbabwe based in Bulawayo, Vocal Ex is hosting a live concert at Family of God Auditorium on 15 December for the first time in more than two years of being locked down.

The seven-year-old talent factory has produced some of Bulawayo’s most prominent musicians in the last few years, including Mimmie Tarukwana, Amanda Grace, Nceku, Victor Stot, Noxy, Chelsea Mguni, Siza Mdlongwa and DeLukes among many other significant musicians.

Thembelani “Mdlazi” Mdlaziba the founder of Vocal Ex said:
“There are a lot of artistes who are doing very well in the music circles, some who are even out of the country that were at some point part of the group. Their work inspires us a lot and we will never stop celebrating their achievements and share their joy because we had the privilege to witness their growth on a personal level.

“These past two years were not very friendly for almost every musician across the globe because of the Covid -19 pandemic. Gatherings were thwarted and this jeopardised platforms that would allow artistes to do concerts.

‘This saw Vocal Ex having their last live performance on 29 September 2019 in Bulawayo. In the same year in October, they also went to Botswana for the Worship Arena Concert hosted by Mogi Aaron which also hosted Mqobi Nxumalo, Puleng March from Joyous Celebration.

Because of Covid-19, we wrapped our year in Victoria Falls in December, where we had our first concert there as a group. That marked our last time on stage before 2020.

“The biggest challenge we have is financial back up. It takes a lot of resources to see a group like ours set up from basic rehearsals up to the actual day of the performance. Financial support is what we need.

‘We have shown growth and potential as we have self-sustained ourselves and we believe that, with financial back up we will surely rise and reach our full potential.’’

The lineup of the concert has also been limited to a few other artistes and only Jacob Song and Ready Hearts, iWorship  will be part of the show.

‘’It will be a concert of so many surprises and great experience, considering it is new generation team, which is very dynamic.

‘We are really excited and looking forward to the day even though we have limited seats to strongly observe the Covid-19 regulations,” said the founder of Vocal Ex.

Mdlazi went on to say, “We would love to acknowledge the love and support we received from Eric Moyo and Mkhululi Bhebhe from Joyous Celebration who are friends with the director. Their input in mentorship really inspires us.”
