THE regional manager of the  National Art Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo Voti Thebe (pictured) has retired.

Thebe, an artist of great repute and mentor of many artists, retired at the end of February and was replaced by curator Clifford Zulu who is on an acting capacity.

In a statement on social media, the gallery said “Over the span of four decades, Thebe has developed an illustrious career and led the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo through tumultuous times. The Board of Trustees and Staff of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe take this opportunity to thank Mr Thebe for all the hard work, wisdom and smiles over the course of his career. 

“He trained at the Mzilikazi Art and Craft Centre in Bulawayo and has over the years exhibited works in a wide array of media including metal sculpture and print works. He was part of the Zimbabwe Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013. He is a recipient of the President’s Award of Honour for his contribution to Visual Art in Zimbabwe.”
