ENTEMBENI Old People’s Home residents in Bulawayo were treated to an early Christmas on Thursday when Queen Priscilla Percy Moyo hosted a Christmas party for the elderly.

Queen Moyo, who is King Mambo’s second wife, brought joy and smiles to the elderly as she felt they are usually neglected during the festive season especially by their relatives.

She said it is important to remember the elderly especially during this period as not all of them still have close living relatives and to give them respect.

“As we are in the festive season, it is important to remember the elderly as many people forget about them while busy with their lives.

“Another problem is that people tend to treat elderly people as children,” said Queen Moyo.

She said the elderly also deserve to be treated well once in a while and people need to celebrate with them so they would feel loved and appreciated.

“The elderly also have feelings like us and they also feel the need to celebrate the festive season just like many people but people, let me say relatives, have dumped them here and there is no one to make sure that they celebrate with them. These people also want to feel loved, that is why we took this time to be here with them” she said.

Mr Thembinkosi Ndlovu a resident at the home said they appreciate the Queen’s gesture especially during the festive season.

“We appreciate this kind gesture as Christmas time can be a very lonely time especially if you don’t have any children, like me all my children are now late and my grandchildren are busy with their lives so knowing that someone thought of us touches the heart,” he said.
