IT is the end of an era for Sean Tarima at West Ham United.
The defender is on a long list of European based players who are being tipped to be the future of the senior men’s national team, the Warriors.
However, the 20-year-old Zimbabwean defender has officially left West Ham after a mutual agreement, marking the end of a chapter that began over a decade ago.
From his days as a young talent scouted from the local Sunday league to becoming an integral part of West Ham’s youth set-up, Tarima’s journey through the Hammers’ academy has been of note.
However, during the past week, West Ham confirmed the departure Tarima, who left the club by mutual agreement.
His next move remains a mystery.
Tarima who joined the Hammers at the tender age of eight was born in the UK to Zimbabwean parents making him a prospect for the Warriors.
Tarima leaves the club having been part of the successful 2022/23 double-winning youth squad.
During that season, the promising defender made 22 appearances for West Ham’s Under-18s. He also played 18 times for the club’s development squad this season, showcasing his potential for the future.
The youngster’s journey to a professional contract was not without challenges.
After being scouted from his local Sunday league team, Euro Dagenham, Tarima rose through the ranks of the West Ham academy alongside notable players like Divin Mubama, Kaelan Casey and George Earthy.
His path was interrupted by a meniscus injury ahead of his transition to full-time football at Under-16 level. Despite the setback, Tarima displayed remarkable resilience, signing a scholarship with the club.
His debut year with the Under-18s saw him start every match as West Ham contended fiercely for the Premier League South title, though another meniscus injury again halted his progress midway through the season.
Tarima’s recovery took nine months, but his determination led to a triumphant return.
The defender played a key role in the Under-18s’ domination of the Premier League South, clinching the title with a 17-point margin.
His performances in the 2023 FA Youth Cup, which saw the Hammers lift the trophy, further solidified his place in the club’s history.
Tarima eventually signed his first professional contract with West Ham in 2023 and embarked on his second year as a professional footballer.
As he now looks ahead to his next career move, the defender remains focused on finding a team and continuing with his rise.
