RURAL women in Nkayi district in Matabeleland North province should take part in economic development projects starting from small holder initiatives that will realise bigger efforts, Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Cde Sithembiso Nyoni has said.

Addressing villagers at the Young Women for Economic Development (YWED) outreach at Gwelushena village in Nkayi district yesterday, Minister Nyoni called on rural women to be effective in their economical strategies.

The event coincided with Mentle Ncube celebrations for being given a Global Achievers Award which will see Nkayi women head to the Dubai Expo 2021. The event was graced by legislator Hon Dexter Nduna, Government officials, local leadership and YWED members.

Minister Nyoni urged rural women to keep abreast with economic development strategies and devise synergies that will expand their operations.

“Today is a day that is special because it is all about testimonials where we  should learn from the engagements that we are having. As the Ministry we are open to educate you and also linking you with the benefactor deals that will uplift your livelihoods,” said Minister Nyoni.

Minister Nyoni called on the public and private sector to support newly set up businesses and families. YWED National programmes coordinator standing for Ms Sithabile Gandi- Ndlovu said Mentle Ncube was an example of what is possible when young women are given the opportunity to take up space.

“For ladies it begins with us. We need to reshape our own perception of the way in which we view ourselves. We need to step up as young women, take the lead, take charge. Now more than ever as young women we need to support and celebrate each other. Every woman’s success should be an inspiration to another. We’re strongest when we cheer each other on,” said Ms Gandi-Ndlovu.

YWED Bulawayo secretary general Ms Sharon Lindelwa Dube concurred with sentiments of giving the youth a bill of life.

“It’s such a joy to live in a generation where different age groups understand that we don’t have to compete with each other because obviously we are at different stages but rather complement each other. That way we stand to go far and the baton stick is passed from one generation to another. Together we stand.”
