THE ruling Zanu-PF Matabeleland South Province has set up committees to spearhead preparations for the party’s 17th National Annual People’s Conference which will be held in Gwanda in December.

The big party indaba is hosted by provinces on a rotational basis and this year it will be hosted by Matabeleland South. Provincial chairperson Cde Rabelani Choeni confirmed that the committees were set up to start organising for the event.

“Preparations are a gear up to make sure we successfully host the conference. Over the weekend we set up committees to spearhead the preparations and they are now on the ground mobilising resources for the event. I can’t give more details but everything is on course for the hosting of the conference. The committees will be meeting on 2 July and that’s when you will get more details,” said Cde Choeni.

He said the province has decided that the conference would be held in Gwanda.

“We don’t decide on the actual venue, that one is decided by the Presidium. We only decide on the location of hosting the conference and for us we agreed that the conference will be held in Gwanda. So everything will be done to see that Gwanda is able to host the conference,” he said.

Last year’s 16th People’s Conference was held in Masvingo running under the theme, “Moving with Zim Asset in Peace and Unity”. The hosting of the conference comes after the province successfully hosted the 21st February Movement celebrations at Matopos Junior School formerly Rhodes Preparatory School (Reps). In March, Cde Choeni announced at a Provincial Co-ordination Committee that the province could not afford to relax after successfully hosting President Mugabe’s 93rd birthday.
