ZIFA Bulawayo clubs have to wait longer for their Covid-19 relief disbursements after the province’s bank account was frozen.
CBZ Bank reportedly put on ice the account following change of signatories after the reinstatement of chairman, Francis Ntuta.

Sources at Zifa said while other provinces had started making disbursements to their affiliates, Bulawayo teams were yet to get their dues.

Ntuta’s return saw a change of signatories to the club’s bank account but no questions were raised at the time by the bank officials.

“When the officials went to withdraw cash to process salaries for the administrators, they were told the account was frozen as there was a need to verify how the change of signatories was done. Apparently the bank wanted to find out who should be genuinely in charge of the account. Ntuta wrote a letter to the effect that he was the chairman and attached correspondence from Zifa reinstating him but the bank officials needed a confirmation from Zifa head office,” said an impeccable source.

Zifa chief executive officer, Joseph Mamutse reportedly wrote to CBZ clarifying the office bearers in the province and the letter had to also be signed by president, Felton Kamambo to ensure authenticity. A source at the province revealed only four clubs have submitted bank accounts as money will only be transferred to club accounts and not personal ones for accountability purposes.

Zifa’s 10 provinces reportedly received their allocations of $1.3 million a fortnight ago with other structures going ahead advancing the cash to their teams. Efforts to get a comment from Ntuta were fruitless as he was not answering his phone.

Zifa communications manager, Xolisani Gwesela declined to comment on the matter saying Ntuta was the right person to speak on the issue.

There has been turmoil within the province since the reinstatement of Ntuta with some members reported to have “resigned” and then later rescinded their decision.
