THE Zimbabwe women’s cricket team, together with their Ireland counterparts yesterday got down to serious business as they gear up for the four-match One Day International series which gets underway on Tuesday at Harare Sports Club.

Action between the two national teams starts on Tuesday, with the other matches scheduled for Thursday, Saturday and next Monday. Ireland landed in Harare on Friday, the same day that the home team headed into camp in the capital city. Yesterday, Ireland held their first training session at HSC while Zimbabwe fine-tuned across the city at Takashinga Cricket Club.

It will be Zimbabwe’s first assignment in the international 50-over version since they were awarded ODI status in April this year. Both teams are using the four-match series to prepare for the International Cricket Council Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier to be held in Zimbabwe from the end of November.

More action is lined up for the Adam Chifo coached Zimbabwean women before they head into battle in the World Cup Qualifier when they take on Bangladesh in three ODIs in November.

Zimbabwe, captained by Mary-Anne Musonda are still in a celebratory mood after they recently won the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier held In Botswana. This saw them secure a ticket to the 2022 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier, which serves as a qualifier for the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa. —  @Mdawini_29
