THE Ingwebu Breweries bankrolled Zimbabwe International Trade Fair Tug- of-War Championships for men were abandoned at the semi-final stage when disagreements arose just before the last four at the ZITF main arena yesterday. Just as the teams were bracing for semi-final slots, a dispute erupted when former champions Mutare Board and Paper Mills who were supposed to meet FBC A for a place in the final refused to do so as they had gone down to the same opponents at the group stage.

With the argument being resolved and with time for the ZITF official closing ceremony having approached, the teams were told to move off the arena. The other teams in the semis were Ingwebu A and Zesa Bulawayo.

The women’s competition had earlier been completed with BCC beating Ingwebu A 2-0 in the final. Zesa Holdings Harare took third place with Zesa Bulawayo settling for fourth spot.

Ingwebu Breweries sales, marketing and corporate affairs manager Nkosana Prince Ndlovu said their hands were tied as sponsors if those charged with organising the competition did not have order.

He remarked that as the sponsors they had been left with egg on the face due to the disorder.

BCC walked away with $400, Ingwebu A $300, Zesa Holdings pocketed $200 while Zesa Bulawayo got $100.
