PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has sent a message of condolence to the people of Kenya following the death of former President Mwai Kibaki.
Former President Kibaki’s death was announced on Friday by President Uhuru Kenyatta, who said his passing on was a sad day for the East African country and praised his predecessor as a great Kenyan and a statesman.

Writing on his official Twitter account yesterday, President Mnangagwa said the people of Zimbabwe are standing with Kenya during these sad times.
“My sincere condolences to the people of Kenya and to the family of President Kibaki. His dedication to the economic transformation of Kenya will be remembered for many generations. The people of Zimbabwe stand with Kenya during this time,” he said.

Former President Kibaki was born on 15 November 1931, when Kenya was under British colonial rule.
He studied at Uganda’s Makerere University, where his teachers remembered him as a brilliant economics student.
He continued his studies at the London School of Economics.
He worked as a teacher before joining politics in a country buoyed by Independence from colonial rule in 1964.
He became a lawmaker and served as Minister of Finance, Vice-President and leader of the opposition.
Before winning the presidency in 2002, he had run for the top political job twice and lost. Former President Kibaki stepped down in 2013 at the end of his second term.
