NMB Bank on Thursday handed over to the Sports and Recreation Commission the medals for the Zimbabwe National Paralympic Games underway in Bindura.

In addition to providing the medals for the games, NMB Bank is donating T-shirts for the athletes participating in the games.

The Zimbabwe National Paralympic Games, which are held annually, were introduced in 2008 by the Sports and Recreation Commission. They provide people living with disabilities with an opportunity to participate in competitive sporting activities and to demonstrate their sporting talents.

This year’s games, are being held in Bindura until Tuesday. They started on Friday. Handing over the medals and T-shirts, NMB chief operating officer Gerald Gore said the bank’s decision to support the games was not difficult to make.

Apart from its core business, which included lending, the bank believed it had a responsibility towards the community. He said people living with disabilities faced major challenges. Most of them lived under difficult circumstances. The bank was glad to be able to support their games.

In the event held in Harare, he appealed to other corporates and individuals to support the Paralympic Games, as they were beneficial to the athletes.

“Not many corporates would jump at the opportunity to support the Paralympic Games as compared to other games,” he said.

“Sometimes we think that one needs to have a lot of money in order to be able to support the games but you just need to have a good heart and be in support of humanity. Everyone can donate something to make these games a success,” he said.

Speaking at the same occasion, Sports and Recreation Commission acting director general Daniel Kuwengwa thanked all the sponsors and praised the partnerships created through the sponsorship.

He said the games created a platform to promote an inclusive society. They also presented a platform for the selection of athletes for higher levels of competition.
