Blood and thunder affair in Social League

The Sunday News

IT will be blood and thunder affairs this afternoon across the city when Bulawayo Social Soccer League teams clash for the valuable three points.

A total of 26 games will be played starting at 11am. Sizzling hot FC Stars from Pool A and the reigning BSSL champions will be hoping to continue on their rich vein when they take on in form Fireworks at Luveve High School.

Both teams have been impressive so far winning their first three games resoundingly while giving away just a few goals in the process. In Pool B Entumbane Bombers pool winners last season are expected to come out firing from all cylinders against Pelandaba at their favourite hunting ground at Esiporweni.

Their goal hungry strikers have found the back of the net thirteen times from a record worth taking note of especially considering that they managed to do that from three games.

Coming into this match Entumbane Bombers coach Liver Phiri is confident that if they can maintain this form nothing can stop them from being crowned winners in Pool B.

“This game for us is a done deal we are definitely going to collect maximum, in fact we intend to go on a ten team game winning streak so that we can be in a better position in our quest for the honours since our rivals are also winning good. If we can manage to do that then we stand a better chance of being winners of Pool B then go on to challenge for the champions of champion trophy,” declared Phiri from Cowdray Park Finance FC, who almost got embarrassed by eight men Matshobana following the dismissal of their two players who were given red cards last Sunday.

Despite their ejection Matshobana went on to add one more goal and take the lead only to concede what turned out to be the equaliser during the last five minutes to walk away a point better off after the teams ended 2-2.

Though playing away from home they will be hoping to pick up a full set of points after losing their first game of the season to Mayihlome 2-0. Another high scoring team to keep an eye on is Nkulumane in Pool B who have produced eight goals from two games.

According to the fixtures secretary Zhwaki Aloise Lunga efforts are being made to see all games over and done with before the curtain comes down for the 2019 soccer season during the last Sunday of November.

“Since we have increased the number of teams in the league a total of fifty matches are going to be played this season, hence we will use all holidays as match days in our endeavour to finish the season at the end of November.

“In addition to that all games that could not take place as a result pitches unsuitable for playing will be played all in one day on 2 March,”said Lunga.
