BULAWAYO Social Soccer teams are set to pack their stores this morning, advance to their scheduled battlefields for their next assignments in search for glory.

As a result of last Sundays’ causalities that left others bruised as well as battered and others in high morale as a result of victories scored, the dust is yet the settle.

The characters as well the extent of the damage caused has left a lot of tongues wagging, this has led those who witnessed the fierce battles to dub them, “Sunday’s special,” by some.

In Pool B, Real Magwegwe crawled into second position after Mayihlome were caught sleeping on duty and lost against the same team 1-0 in the process falling down one step.

Tigers also left Ndola bruised after edging them 2-1 before their multitude of followers at their hunting ground.
In Cowdray Park whipping boys of pool A, 94 Strivers needed just a single gunshot towards the end of the game to register one of their most memorable wins to date against highly rate Cream Tata.

The icing on the cake came when the reigning champions as well as the log leaders Stars FC finally found a way to crack the password set by their bogey side 70 Combination two years ago to be specific.

On that day not only did they find the target once but several times in succession to win 4-0 much to the pain and agony of their opponents in their own backyard.

For Stars to register this win which has proved elusive over a period spanning over two years was something to celebrate while also giving more hope to the team.

“This was one of the greatest wins of course, the jinx has been broken, for two consecutive years we failed to beat them home and away.

“That is a medal added to us, not to mention it being a silencing missile to those who thought we were going to be walloped again,” said Stars organising secretary Linda Bhebhe.

When asked about the way forward now that this battle is over Bhebhe said focus is now on their next opponent Glenkara.

“Our next assignment is the troublesome Glenkara, we hope to do the same justice we did to their neighbours 70 Combination, as Stars we are already getting that feeling of retaining the Championship,” declared Bhebhe.

Meanwhile, the Wolanani Football League based in Mbembesi resumed action last weekend as teams battled it out in Week 12 fixtures.

Lochard opened a one point lead at the top of the log as they took the bite out of Green Mambas to increase their points tally to 31 points while Sondelani jumped to second place following their 1-0 victory over Nqakala.

Bafana Bafana who reached the halfway point as log leaders with Lochard slipped as they drew 1 all with Border Kings, leaving them on third position with 29 points.

Zimbili Black Tigers retained fourth position following a convincing victory over Super Zulu.

Mabheleni’s woes at the bottom of the table continued as they failed to pitch for their tie against Shooting Stars, giving the latter a 3-0 victory for a walkover. Green Mambas also remained rooted second from bottom following their loss to Lochard.

The Bulawayo Amateur Football League takes a mid-season break this weekend.
