CHILDREN from all the country’s provinces had by yesterday started arriving in Bulawayo for today’s historic Children’s Party that will be hosted by President Mnangagwa and First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa at the State House.
Officials said each of the nine provinces, except Bulawayo, was providing 50 children while the host city will provide just over 550 children.
The Children’s Party, which is also coming to Bulawayo for the first time, is part of the Independence Day celebrations, with the main celebrations set for Barbourfields stadium tomorrow.
During the Children’s Party, part of 1 090 children will get an opportunity to interact with the First Family. Some will however, follow the celebrations virtually.
Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, who is also the acting Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere told Sunday News yesterday that everything was in place for the Children’s Party that will be hosted at the State House in Bulawayo.
“All is in place for the Children’s Party that will be hosted by the President and the First Lady at the State House, already the children have started arriving and all the logistics are in place for this event.
The significance of this party is that it gives children an opportunity to be also part of the Independence celebrations and also gives the First Family a chance to interact with the children who are the future of this nation,” said Dr Muswere.
Child President Hazel Tanyaradzwa Mandaza who will grace the party said the future of Zimbabwe was bright as there was a visionary leader in the form of President Mnangagwa who has included children in his programmes.
“The future of our nation is here and it’s bright, why? Because our Government has young people at heart hence, they put all other programmes aside just to have time with us children, listening to what we have to say and yes, preparing us for the future.
We feel so belonging to our Zimbabwe, that we’re recognised as children and not being left behind,” she said.
She said children have been given the responsibility of cherishing the land their forefathers fought for.
