AFRICAN Sun Limited has appointed Mr Chiku Mulinde as the new general manager for Elephant Hills Hotel in Victoria Falls.

Prior to his new appointment, Mr Mulinde was general manager at Holiday Inn Bulawayo for the past five years.

Speaking at a kitchen equipment donation to Bulawayo Polytechnic and Chinhoyi University of Technology on Wednesday, African Sun Limited managing director Mr Edwin Shangwa said as part of restructuring its business, the hospitality company was also promoting its best performers.

“As a business we have restructured, it’s not just Mr Mulinde who has been moved but we do this from time to time so that people grow. Mr Mulinde is moving from a city hotel to a resort hotel, which has 276 rooms. He is one of our key general managers who has run this hotel successfully, it is because of that success that as a group we recognise star performers that is why he has been moved to a bigger property to face new challenges,” said Mr Shangwa.

Mrs Amanda Matema is now the new general manager at Holiday Inn Bulawayo.

“We will help Mrs Matema to settle in. We have a support system that is structured in such a way that there is a head of operations for every department. She is not a new player in the industry as she was part of a team that successfully opened Holiday Inn Accra in Ghana. She understands the Holiday Inn standards and everything, which Mr Mulinde was running here,” said Mr Shangwa.

He said the donation was part of the company’s way of paying gratitude to the institutions which churn out human resources to it and the entire hospitality industry.

“This time around we have decided to give back to the sources of our talented employees. It gives us great joy and honour to be able to make a difference in the organisations that help shape our future chefs,” said Mr Shangwa.

Mr Mulinde said he is looking forward to the new challenge of managing a resort hotel.

“I have been at Holiday Inn Bulawayo for the past five years and it was a very good work experience. I’m definitely looking forward to the new challenge because it is a very big hotel compared to a city hotel and I will continue to uphold the international standards that African Sun operates under,” he said.
