RESPECT and recognition are very important virtues. Every normal human being desires to get or have it!

Ever noticed how society recognises and respects a graduate? Did you know that a person can be highly respected because he or she has a good job, car and a beautiful house, while the other may not gain the same respect because he or she is unemployed? Everyone desires to be respected and be recognised — that includes you! At work, we desire to be recognised through a promotion, in the society we desire to be respected. But none of this can happen if you do not improve yourself!
Achieve it and you earn it!

People respect and recognise us when we grow from one level to another — when we improve from what we were yesterday.

Respect and recognition is honoured to one who constantly works on improving themselves. It is human nature to respect and recognise those who excel in life.

The secret to winning respect and recognition
You may have failed your O-levels, you may be unemployed, or may be at the same job post for years without any promotion.

Guess what? The secret of gaining recognition and respect is — Improve yourself! None of us are perfect, we must keep improving ourselves. If you do not have O-levels and you are still sitting at home, you are wasting time. Seek to do something that will take you to another level. Trust Academy offers Open Entry professional courses that cater for those even without adequate Ordinary Level passes. One can enrol for computer courses such as PC Engineering, Graphic Design, Software Engineering, Web design and so on. Do not allow yourself to be called usisi kumbe ubhudi ovuka aze atshone esendlini engela lutho lokwenza.

Use your time wisely — life has no rehearsals!
You cannot allow time to pass you by without fully utilising it. You can also be one of the graduates in Zimbabwe who are unemployed, and you are sitting at home hoping for employment, but let me ask you this, when you finally get the job will you be having the required skills and professionalism that your employer expects from you? Will you be of great value to the organisation?  If you are not certain about this, stop waiting for a job doing nothing at home; instead complement your degree or qualification with short term professional diplomas that will increase your employability and help you. Self-development is important, nxa ufuna ukuphila impilo enhle, zithuthukise/ self-development.

Look at where you will be when the economy improves, and opportunities are plenty.

Some lucky politicians secured their jobs for the next five years. Interestingly you and I helped them to get their jobs.

We all hope for an improved economy, if the economy opens and opportunities rise, will you have the appropriate skills that will make you seize the opportunity? Nxa amabhizimisi amanengi engavula njengoba kutshiwo ukuthi “Zimbabwe is open for business,” uzatholakala ulawo amaphepha emfundo kumbe uzaba ngulowana obukela abanye beqhatshwa ngoba ungela maphepha esikolo eneleyo? Zithuthukise empilweni, ungasaleli emuva.

God created us all for a purpose; His plans for us are to prosper us and not to fail us. However, we fail to live the life of purpose that God wishes from us because we do not want to improve ourselves.

We stay at the same level for months, years without improving anything in our skills and personality then expect to flourish. Do something about your situation. Respect and recognition do not follow you without putting any effort to improve yourself and be relevant in your spheres of life.

Some key stakeholders in career guidance
Parents, church leaders and traditional leaders, make it your primary duty to direct the path of this new generation. The word of God says, teach your child in the way he should go and when he grows up he will not depart from it. Educational Institutions rely on the support given by parents, church leaders and traditional leaders in shaping the lives of young people.

At church, teach youths to work hard and improve themselves. Parents, encourage your children to constantly enrol for professional courses and advance in their careers.
