FORMER national sevens rugby team coach, Daniel Hondo has bounced back into the position to replace Gilbert Nyamutsamba.
It will be the second time that Hondo, a former Cheetahs vice-captain succeeds Nyamutsamba, a man who was used to be his coach during his playing days.
Zimbabwe Rugby Union chief executive officer, Sifiso Made said Hondo and Nyamutsamba made the final list of candidates for the interviews, with the former chosen for the job.
Hondo was announced by ZRU together with coaches for other national teams. Derek Chiwara managed to keep his Lady Cheetahs post, Zimbabwe born former Botswana captain Munyaradzi Mhonda is the new coach for the women’s fifteens team.
Shaun De Souza has taken over the men’s Under-20 coaching position from Farai Mahari while Tangisayi Chidhakwa replaces Nsikelelo Sibanda as women Under-20 coach.
In July, ZRU advertised all posts for national team coaches, with the only Sables coach Brendan Dawson and his Sables coaching staff being retained, with their mandate being to qualify for the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.
An interview process has been taking place over the months until ZRU made the announcements a few days ago when the appointed individuals accepted their appointments.
Positions for junior national team coaches, which were also advertised are still to be filled.
