FORMER Highlanders midfielder Blessing Gumiso who has turned to coaching, has set sights on leading the club’s technical department in the near future.

Gumiso, currently coaching Rebels Sports Academy in South Africa, expressed hope that one day he will coach Highlanders and help them win titles.

“My dream is to coach Highlanders, as their former player, I feel I have to give back to the club for all the good things that they did for me by coaching the senior team. The main agenda behind me being their coach would be to help them win titles the same way I helped them triumph as a player,” he said.

Going down memory lane, he remembers how they would torment their opponents together with his team mates like Zenzo Moyo. Gumiso, who now who holds a Safa B coaching certificate admitted that achieving this goal was going to be hard considering the qualifications needed by Caf for one to be a top coach.

“Achieving this goal is going to be hard considering the Caf coaching requirements, my Safa B coaching certificate is not considered as a premier league qualification hence I am still pursuing my studies and once I am done I will come back home and practice my trade there,” said Gumiso

Gumu Gumu, as he was known, was full of praise to the Highlanders family for giving Madinda Ndlovu a chance saying they will be rewarded for that crucial decision.

“Madinda is the best coach when it comes to team building, his strong character adds to his advantage. I love the confidence that he has as a coach and his ability to have direct influence on the players will strongly help the team,” he said.

Upon being asked to give advice to Zimbabwean players on how to solve the poor run by their clubs in the Caf Champions league and Caf Confederations Cup, Gumiso said players should work on their physical strength mostly as the tournament requires a lot of physic.

Gumiso was part of the Highlanders history making team which won four league titles in a row from 1999 to 2002; he won the Most Consistent Player of the Year award back to back in 2000 and 2001. He also played for clubs like Sporting Lions, Masvingo United before hanging his boots at Mwana Africa in 2008.

He moved to South Africa in February this year where he is coaching Rebels Sports Academy, an academy which plays in the Johannesburg Grassroots League.
