The Sunday News

A 30-YEAR-OLD woman who was convicted of stealing face powder in an Edgars shop in Harare claims men are hounding her, offering her a better life after learning of the theft case. Patience Shumba alleged that men had been flocking to her home, whose address was published in the news story, and some even making phone calls. She, however, insisted that she was not searching and told the men to back off.

“Since you started covering my case, with my pictures coming in every issue I have had men driving to my place. Most of them were driving posh cars and were promising me a good life.”

“I just want to make it clear that I am not searching although I’m single. I’m not fussy about men. I have had a couple of marriages that have failed so I’m now doing my own things.

“I’m a very independent person and I can’t handle being bullied by a man,” she claimed.
The cosmetic thief also seemed to be an addict of make-up as her skin looked well-cooked by cosmetics. She said she used a whole bottle of Flori Roberts (make-up foundation) every month although it may last close to half a year for other users.

“I love myself and so I always wear make-up to enhance my looks. I buy this (Flori Roberts that she was convicted of stealing) every month from Edgars,” she said.

Patience said that she spent most of her time with friend Cynthia Naison more than she did with any other person as they were into farming together. They were together on the day she was caught stealing face powder.

“This past season was so good for me and I can tell you that I really made a lot of cash. I am a hard worker and I can take you to my farm if you don’t believe me,” she claimed. The mother of two said she once tried her luck in modeling before she started “hustling”.

“I once tried modelling and I was good at it but the problem is that I want money so much such that I’m always looking for it,” she said.
Asked why she stole face powder, Patience said it was part of hustling.
“Wow, that was something else and whatever I will say doesn’t matter now because I was convicted.” — H-Metro
