The Kwekwe Podium which is found at Kwekwe Theatre is now the hub of cultural activities like dance, poetry, painting, music, drama, among other forms of entertainment.
The Podium aims at reviving art, culture, music and drama in the province. It provides a platform which allows youths in Kwekwe and from the rest of the Midlands province to market themselves through public performances. It is also aimed at educating the youths on how to become professional artistes through art and music.
The director of the Kwekwe Podium, Sydney Munemo, said the podium has grown to be a voice to the artistes.
“It has grown to be the best platform for new and old artistes in and around Kwekwe. Our platform is open to everyone regardless of their background, stable, genre, age or otherwise. Anyone can come and express themselves,” said Munemo.
The podium is also a learning platform for artistes who are eager to know the fundamentals of art, music and copyright issues in the music industry. The podium provides the stage for artistes especially the up and coming artistes on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. On Wednesdays the podium hosts “open mic nights” where various artists from different genres showcase their talents. On Thursdays its “Bantu and friends live” where drama is showcased and on Fridays it’s the “dancehall and urban nights” where mainly dancehall chanters and urban grovers take to the stage.
