BULAWAYO lawyer Nsikelelo Mafa Moyo has declared his intention to stand for the post of executive secretary in next month’s Highlanders Football Club elections.

The elections are due in February and will see eligible club members vie for the chairperson, executive secretary and committee member posts in the executive.

Popularly known in football and social circles as “Advovo”, Moyo is an experienced lawyer with over 22 years working experience in the fraternity and holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree LLB, a post-graduate certificate in International Criminal Jurisdictions, a certificate in Civil Procedure and Litigation.

“I am honoured to announce my candidature for the position of Executive Secretary for our beloved club. I am committed to serving our club with passion, integrity and a determination to elevate Highlanders to new heights,” said Moyo as he declared his candidature.

Moyo believes his vast experience in the corporate and legal world is what Bosso needs.

“We need to commercialise our club as a matter of urgency. We are currently victims of flawed processes and unfair decisions, both as a club and for our players in their individual capacities who receive unceremonious fines with no just cause,” Moyo told Zimpapers Sports Hub.

A committee member with the club’s Harare Supporters’ Chapter before he moved back to Bulawayo and life member, he describes himself as a passionate football fan who grew up a Highlanders fan whose life away from work and family revolves around the club.

“I started attending football matches at Barbourfields Stadium from the tender age of five with my uncles,” he said.

Moyo said in his role as secretary-general, he will push for proper compliance with corporate governance by ensuring transparency and accountability, organisational efficiency, strong community engagement, player welfare and development, financial stability and strategic planning and growth.

“I believe that with my experience, dedication, and love for Highlanders Football Club, I am well-equipped to serve as your Executive Secretary. I am committed to listening to your needs and aspirations and I pledge to lead with integrity and vision.”

“Together let’s work towards a bright and successful future for our beloved Highlanders Football Club. People should never underestimate the importance of proper corporate governance in any organisation. Let’s make Bosso great again,” Moyo  said.

Moyo says he is a dynamic leader with extensive legal experience having worked in the corporate, judiciary,  law firms, non-governmental organisations, Public Service and in academia.

Moyo is a multi-skilled attorney with cross-jurisdictional legal experience having worked in four countries in Southern Africa, in Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Moyo was born and bred in Bulawayo, attended Baines Junior School and Cyrene High School for his O-levels before completing his A-level at JZ Moyo High School.
