LETTERS TO THE EDITOR:Prices a cause for concern

The Sunday News

EDITOR, we note with a heavy heart a wave of wantonly obdurate economic saboteurs besieging the consumers through their unjustified and profit seeking prices that have left the family’s bread basket getting shallower with each day passing.

Consumers are trapped into a dual prison where they suffer from both rapid increase of prices and plummeting value of their money. The value of the money continues tumbling at alarming speed, prices of basic goods such as bread, cooking oil, sugar and mealie-meal among some, are doubling and trebling each day, much to the plight and misery of many households.

The Government must find a solution as soon as possible because any delay might brew unnecessary hardship that is engineered to foment discontentment among consumers. How can bread have five different prices when the inputs are the same? Is this increase in prices genuine or it’s another straw meant to steer a protest among consumers? Both protests and rampant looting are criminal and Government has an obligation to protect businesses through ensuring that their goods are fairly priced and fall within reach for all consumers.

Similarly, Government must put an eye and weed out some garages that continue to cause artificial fuel shortages by channelling all their fuel reserves into the black market. Black market of basic goods and fuel is now bouncing back and Government must once and for all deal with its evil effects as soon as possible.

How can families starve of bread when wheat is produced in abundance locally? Why is bread so expensive?

Prices must normalise as soon as possible,

Concerned, Bulawayo.
