A ZIMBABWEAN match official who recently took part in the 2018 ConIFA World Football Cup held in the United Kingdom is in an eye of a storm after allegations have emerged that he was caught in a compromising position with a male companion.

The referee (name withheld) got rave reviews for his sterling performance and being among the first to implement some new rules in the game, but was left with egg on his face after news filtered through that he could be “bisexual”.

“The referee did a good job in the tournament and was brave enough to lead from the front and implement some new rules but these allegations have shocked everyone in the association and those close to him. He has not been seen in public yet and we don’t know if he came back to the country or decided to stay outside the country since sex-same marriages are illegal in the country and people here generally are not accommodative to gays and lesbians,” said a source close to the referee.

Efforts to contact the said referee were unsuccessful. ConIFA is an international football tournament for states, minorities, stateless peoples and regions unaffiliated with Fifa organised by ConIFA.
