SOUTH Africa-based musician, Unity “Mauzah” Moyo is back in the studio as he keeps himself busy during the lockdown period.

Moyo released the track Intwe Mnandi last week and is working on coming up with a full album during the lockdown. The coronavirus pandemic has shut down most economies across the world with entertainment and showbiz being some of the worst hit industries as governments seek to stem the spread of the virus through banning gatherings.

“We thrive on crowds in the entertainment industry and since during this period we are not permitted to gather, I felt it is the best time to go back into the studio and come up with an album. I released the single Intwe Mnandi first and will be following it up with other tracks.

“From the look of things bars and shows are likely to be the last to be allowed to open when the virus has been stemmed so I might as well take the time to record a full album rather than be idle. The song is available online,” said the former Achuzi front man.

Mauzah produced the single, together with Alex Lunga at his home recording studio, Mauzah Studios situated in Berea, Johannesburg. The song which rides a konka piano beat laced with kwaito-style was mastered by Farai Manyora in Germiston. Mauzah said he had also come up with five beats that he is offering to up-and-coming artistes in Bulawayo.

“I decided to create kwaito beats that young musicians can ride and release as their own. This is a free give away, my way of assisting those emerging in the industry. I have also been doing mixtapes which people can download for free online,” he said.

Mauzah teamed up with Masawuso Ngodzo and Norman Ngodzo to form Achuzi in 1998 at a time when a wave of young local musicians were emerging on the scene buoyed by the 75 percent local content policy that had been introduced by the national broadcaster.
