IT is down to eleven contestants vying for Black Opal’s Face of Zimbabwe (Bofoz) finale, which will be held in the capital on Saturday.

Representing Bulawayo are two girls, Mazvita Chakawa (23) and Zoey Mpofu (19), who spoke to Sunday Life about how they felt about the competition.

Chakawa, a former Eveline Girls High School student who has just completed her first degree in Biochemistry with a first class at the University of Zimbabwe, said her ultimate goal was to be a successful commercial model.

“I aspire to be a reputable commercial model and to establish a forensic laboratory in Zimbabwe. I love taking pictures a lot and that has inspired my dream of becoming a commercial model. I believe in the power of a dream,” she said.

Mpofu, an ambitious young lady with a strong conviction for achieving her goals, completed her A-level studies at Dominican Convent last year and wants to pursue a degree in Business Management and Hospitality.

In accordance with the Bofoz the tagline, “Define your beauty”, the two have interesting definitions of their beauty.

“Qualifying to be part of the 11 finalists really means a lot. It is like a dream come true really because it is the first time I have actually done something towards achieving my childhood dream of becoming a commercial model. Being a Bofoz finalist has opened so many doors for me and because of that most agencies have started taking me seriously. It has become easier for me to walk into a room with influencial and respectable people to tell my story without being judged based on gender, age, background, race or educational achievements,” Chakawa said.

Mpofu said although the journey had not been a simple one, she was grateful to have made it this far.

“The journey has not been easy but all the time, effort and sacrifices have been worth it. It means the world to me and I am so grateful. I have made unforgettable memories and I have had colourful experiences. My self-esteem and confidence have had a major boost and I have gained new friends that are worth more than the sacrifices I have made,” she said.

The Bofoz finale will be held at Harare’s Glamis Arena where Jamaican music sensation Romain Virgo, Jah Prayzah and Soul Jah Love will be part of the line-up.

The public can vote for their favourite contestants via SMS until voting closes on 13 September. Details of voting procedure are available on the Black Opal Cosmetics Zimbabwe website and Facebook pages.
