MTSHABEZI High School boys are the top team in the Dumisani Foundation Under-15 Football League after the second round robin tournament held at their school last Saturday.
The winners of last year’s final tournament, Mtshabezi are on top of the log with 10 points, secured from two wins and four draws. Mtshabezi never tasted defeat in the six matches they played, three in March and the same number last Saturday. The boys from Umzingwane District scored three goals and only conceded once in the six matches.
Last Saturday, Mtshabezi defeated Entumbane 1-0, having earlier on drawn nil-all with both Gifford and Milton. Entumbane are second on the log with nine points, followed by Gifford with eight while Milton are the bottom team with just three points secured from draws.
In the girls’ fixture, Entumbane defeated Mtshabezi 2-0 to complete a double over their counterparts having won the first meeting 1-0 at Gifford in March.
The final tournament is set for Mtshabezi on 4 August in the presence of the sponsor, Dumisani Ndlovu who is expected to bring a big contingent from the Diaspora including his former students from the United Kingdom.
“We have completed the qualifiers, all geared up for August finals. I am bringing a group of college students on work experience and charity work,’’ Ndlovu said.
In last year’s final played at Milton High School, Mtshabezi defeated Milton 5-4 on penalties after the match had ended 0-0 in normal time.
Gifford, winners of the tournament in 2015 and 2016 took third spot in a round robin which involved Entumbane and Donkwe-Donkwe of Kezi.
Dlamini of Tsholotsho, who were meant to be part of the round robin to determine the third placed team, did not turn up.
