Renowned historian, author and cultural critique Pathisa Nyathi has inspired the Brazilian Afreaka Festival, cultural cycle through his writings.

Nyathi has since been invited to attend the June 2016, second Edition of Afreaka Festivals in Brazil. The event which is jointly organised by the City of São Paulo city hall and Afreaka project.

The Afreaka Festival is meant to demystify cultural and contemporary myths between Africa and Brazil.

In interview with the Sunday Life Afreaka Project co-ordinator Flora Pereira confirmed the invitation of Nyathi. She said her organisation met Nyathi in 2012 and since then articles they wrote about Nyathi inspired many in Brazil.

“The guests are important thinkers and artistes of different areas: visual and performing arts, music, literature and humanities. We believe that his work would contribute to the enhancement of this cycle,” she said.

Meanwhile, Nyathi is excited by the invitation which he said will be his first visit to South America.

“I am greatly honoured. I will seize the opportunity to know, appreciate and to figure out how much of African people shipped to Brazil are coping up in relation to their African origin.

“It is going to be a good experience. I have never been to South America.

I am going to share also the culture, environment and make some comparison to what is happening there and in Africa,”said Nyathi.
