One more race added at Borrowdale

MASHONALAND Turf Club (MTC) are set to host their last race for the year 2019 at the traditional venue, Borrowdale Racecourse on 27 December before taking a short festive season break.

According to the programme released by MTC mid this year, the domestic action will run until August next year before the curtain for the 2019/2020 season comes down.

One more race meeting has been added to the calendar before racing in 2019 comes to an end at the racecourse according to the racing manager Betina Gurajena.

“In terms of our programme we were supposed to break on 15 December. However, one more race meeting has been added on the 27th of December which will be our last for the year.

“This period being a festive season we expect it to bring more to the followers of racing in the country,” said Gurajena

Since the season started the course has been lenient decorating many stables with a smile in each race meeting.

The new kid on the block, trainer Thomas Mason made a quick start off the blocks saddling a significant number of winners on the first day.

However, as expected stables with larger pool of horses to select from have arrived at the party riding on their wide selection base.

These include the Bridget Stidolph stable, Kirk Swanson, Gokhan Terzi, all these have displayed what their hands are made of when it comes to horse racing.

Despite lean fields in some major competition MTC as well as their partners ranging from the civic organisations to the uniformed forces have kept going in their endeavour to entertain the nation as well as help members of the industry to fend for their families. 

To date a number of crowd pulling races have come and gone while one has been pushed to next year.

Yesterday the horse racing fraternity witnessed the running on the Commander ZNA charity horse race proceeds being donated to selected Army charity programmes dotted across the country.

Fans were also were given a taste of the new race on the calendar the Sunshine Cup as well as various forms of entertainment to liven up the tempo during the race meeting.
