The Rwandan community in Zimbabwe on Friday celebrated Umuganura, – the country’s version of thanksgiving.

Every year, on the first Friday of August, Rwandans celebrate Umuganura, which is also  a national holiday.  This is the second time Umuganura was celebrated in Zimbabwe following successful celebrations hosted in Harare last year.

In his message to mark the day, Rwanda’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, James Musoni, said the day is regarded as a sign of unity among Rwandans and an opportunity to assess the past, celebrate achievements, correct mistakes and appropriately plan for the future.

“Key objectives of Umuganura (cultural harvest) are to create an opportunity for Rwandans to reflect on the positive values of Rwandan culture that is a cornerstone to strengthening unity and reconciliation of Rwandans, to preserve Rwandan culture by educating the young generation on the importance of safeguarding our cultural heritage as well as to recognize the achievements in various sectors of the economy,” Ambassador Musoni said.

Ambassador Musoni commended the unity among Rwandan community members in Zimbabwe and encouraged them to keep observing Covid-19 safely guidelines.
