THE Bulawayo Social Soccer League (BSSL) is set to reach the halfway mark this morning with reigning champions Stars FC still sitting at the top of the log, a position they moved into more than five months ago while riding on a four point cushion.
If Stars, who are on 62 points from 25 games remain as ruthless as they have been against their rivals they stand a better chance of seeing their name on the roaster of participants to shoot their way to glory during the Champion of Champions final at the end of the season.
On this match-day most teams reach their 26 game mark, save for few who have outstanding games, paving way for the home stretch which has a similar number of games.
Looking at the number of games remaining as well as the gap between the log leaders from both pools A as well as B, a lot of things can happen along the way hence it’s still tricky to write off any of the chasing teams.
Meanwhile, according to a notice by fixtures secretary Edison Sibanda sent out to teams there will not be any mid-season break.
“I would like to inform teams that this week we are having a full programme, teams will take no break as earlier announced.
Instead we are reversing with a full programme, all games in hand will be played during the coming August holiday, any inconvenience is sincerely regretted,” he said.
The scenario is likely to swing the pendulum in favour of teams who are currently enjoying a rich vein of form.
On the other hand while under the BSSL system no teams get relegated, those anchoring the log will obviously be frustrated by such a move as hoping for the break so as to return rejuvenated sides in the second half.
