THE finishing line for Bulawayo Social Soccer League (BSSL) teams is getting close with each passing day while at the same time the light set on by the pacesetters in both pools still shines bright ahead of them.

Writing in the leagues’ weekly bulletin, a social media platform, “Dr Kamuzu Banda” the leagues’ rabble-rouser sarcastically referred to the current log leaders Stars as the mad man who has decided to run away with the relay baton into the forest.

“Like a mad man in a relay Stars have decided to run away with the relay baton into the forest leaving Mthala as well as 70 Combination, battling to be crowned the second best,” wrote Banda.

This sarcasm is derived from the fact that not only have Stars remained glued at the top for quite long a period but have looked invisible of late, hence difficult to knock out.

Little did Banda know that Fundukulinda were hunting in that forest for an expedition that resulted in the team going a substantial number of games without tasting defeat.

When the next prey standing on their way were Stars dubbed the “tika tika boys” of social soccer due to the way they pass the ball around, they remained resolute bombarding them left right and centre to walk away with the full points after a nail biting 90 minutes battle which ended 3-2 in their favour.

Though this painful defeat did not change the status quo at the top of the league the message was clear to all and sundry that the victims despite all that havoc they have caused in the league they are not invisible at all.

The fight for the second spot in pool A continues to intensify after all the contenders posted a mixed bag of results.

The stubborn Makokoba boys Makwee got the better of second-placed Mthala after they handed them a one nil defeat in Makokoba.

Fireworks dubbed “the Land Lords” also edged the most successful BSSL team 70 combination one nil at their Luveve home ground.

Another team with a chance to finish as the second best team in pool A got a morale booster after brushing aside a fighting 94 Strivers in Cowdray Park.

Some match that also caught the attention of the followers of social soccer was the 3-1 defeat suffered by the log leaders Skippers and the hands of Real Shwelele.

The highest scoring match of the day was recorded in Nkulumane when Nkulumane clobbered a helpless Zonke at home.

Mayihlome also took home three points after winning their respective match to keep the pressure on the log leader Skippers in what looks like a pool that can head all the way to the wire.

Today all teams will be in action as the programme continues across town.
Meanwhile, Bulawayo Amateur Football Association side, Safeguard remain on course to defend the Townshend and Butcher Trophy.
