IN their prime, Bulawayo’s industries were the pride of Zimbabwe.

At cockcrow, many rose to work in the industries that kept many families fed and the country’s economy on its feet. Since the turn of the millennium however, most of those industrial sites have become white elephants and the smoke that used rise from the factories is no longer a defining feature of the City of Kings.

As the Government prepares to once again breathe new life into Bulawayo’s industries, a group of house music addicts have decided to take their music to these long abandoned buildings and perhaps have one last party before these sleeping giants are back on their feet.

Founded by the same house fanatics that brought the city the popular Sunday Chillas gigs, the Summer Garage Festival returns to the old Luveve Industrial Site, where DJs like the award winning DJ Skaiva, Ryan Synth and the trailblazing DJ Kotwane will be entertaining house lovers on 8 September. Other wheel spinners that are set to feature include Soul Identity, DJ Sweet, House Militia and Tribal Therapy among others.

“We wanted to give people something different,” said Chronicles of House Nation’s Denzil “DaHousemaniac” Zulu. “We just wanted to give people a unique experience infused with our own kasi flavour. Our first edition was in 2016 and featured DJs like Prince Eskhosini, Crazy Dee and a few others. We wanted to host it again last year but we had a few hiccups,” Zulu said.

With those hiccups now ironed up, Zulu said that they were now hoping to make the event an annual gig.

“In 2016 we got in as much as 400 people so we’re hoping that this year will be bigger and better,” he said.
