ZIFA Southern Region log leaders Talen Vision stretched their lead at the top by four points after out smarting Mainline 3-0 at Dingumuzi Stadium in Plumtree yesterday as second-placed Bulawayo City were held to a goalless draw by Toronto at Mzilikazi Barracks.
The log leaders made their intention to win the match clear from the onset and were rewarded as early as the sixth minute when Adonis Sibanda found the net through a diving header from an Obadiah Tarumbwa cross. However, Vision let their opponents find their way back into the match with impressive build-ups initiated by impress midfielder Zenempilo Khuphe and diminutive right back Tichaona Chauke.
The home side started the second half from where they had left with relentless attacking on the visitors’ goal. However, against the run of play in the 62nd minute Tarumbwa doubled the visitors’ lead after receiving a pass from former Bulawayo Chiefs forward Moses Majika just outside the 18 yard box to curl the ball beyond the reach of Ashwin Msazulwa in goals for the host. Barely six minutes later the former Highlanders and Chicken Inn striker came back to haunt the Plumtree side and kill the match as a contest with almost a carbon copy of the first for his brace and his team’s third. With the win Talen Vision extended their unbeaten run in the league to 20 games amassing 46 points in the process. City have 42 points from 19 matches.
City coach, Try Ncube was frustrated by his team’s failure to prevail over Toronto and vowed to fight until the end of the season.
“It’s all to play for, we are disappointed that we didn’t get the much needed three points. The opponents defended very well and they were too deep, trying to hit us on the counter. We will soldier to keep in touch with the log leaders,’’ Ncube said.
Even though they have a game in hand, Ncube feels that they cannot bank on that before they win it.
