A STRIKE from outside the box by former Highlanders striker Tafadzwa Sibanda is what Castle Premier Soccer League newbies, TelOne, needed to edge Bulawayo Chiefs in a match played at Luveve Stadium yesterday.
Sibanda found the target in the 79th minute when he let loose a stinger from outside the box that in the process beat a diving David Bizabani who was in goals for Chiefs. TelOne now have four points from their opening two matches following a 0-0 draw with Herentals in their first match in the top flight league.
For Chiefs, it has been a bad start to this season as they are yet to pick up any points and having conceded six goals in just two matches. Amakhosi Amahle were drubbed 5-0 by Chapungu in Zvishavane last Saturday.
“It was not an easy game. We did all what could do. We could have done better but we lost. It’s unfortunate that I was not in charge when we lost 5-0 to Chapungu. We will bounce back a better side,” said Bulawayo Chiefs fitness trainer, Thulani Sibanda.
Jairos Tapera, the man who man is in charge of TelOne, said he was feeling on top of the world.
“Thank God. We did very well. It all points to the fact that we want to survive. We hope and pray we will continue doing better. I think Joel Luphahla has done so well in assembling this team,” said Tapera, a former national Under-20 coach.
Luphahla, an ex Zimbabwe international, who took the Gweru side into the top-flight league last season, was forced to step down from his duties ahead of the new season since he does not have a Caf A licence to coach in the PSL. — @FungaiMuderere
