Toss that weave in the air, Hello to the LACE WIGS

IN the world of fashion trends come for a season and that’s just the way it is, if the trend is really hot it stays longer. We have seen hair trends change drastically, from the afro, cornrows, short and long synthetic weaves and then the Peruvians and Brazilian weaves, we can barely keep up.

While some of us are trying to figure out the difference in grades, the others have moved on to the LACE WIGS!

A lace wig or a lace front wig is a special type of hairpiece or synthetic hair sewn by hand to a sheer lace base which can be worn over the scalp. Don’t be fooled to think anyone rocks a weave for three months or so without changing it these days, it’s a wig. Women have turned to lace wigs and we can’t blame them, going to the hair salon is tiresome and expensive too.

I am for the lace wig because:

Can be worn for long periods — The exact duration of how long a lace front wig can stay on would depend on the kind of adhesive/glue that is used. When you use a high-quality glue or tape, the wig can stay on for as long as two weeks without shifting in place. However, if you only plan on wearing the wig for a short period, you can choose not to use an adhesive and instead just attach the wig using adjustable straps that normally come with the wig.

It looks real — The hair strands of a lace front wig are attached securely to a wig cap made of a strong but sheer type of lace fabric, which is almost invisible to the naked eye when worn on the head unless one takes a really close look. Because the lace is virtually undetectable, people will think that the wig you are wearing is your real hair or a weave, which is exactly what you want them to think.

You can breathe — One of the problems about regular wigs/weaves that people often complain about is that it makes them feel hot and uncomfortable especially after prolonged use because the wig cap is too solid and does not allow the scalp to breathe. This is not a problem at all with front lace wigs because the lace material is so sheer that it not only allows the scalp to breathe but it would actually feel that it wasn’t there at all.

Versatility — Also because of the indiscernible wig cap, you can part your hair anywhere you want without worrying that an unattractive base will be visible to other people. However, since only the front portion of the lace front wig is made of lace and the back portion is made of a thicker and more visible material, it wouldn’t be a good idea to wear your hair up in a high ponytail or a bun because doing so can reveal the unsightly base towards the back that you would want to conceal from people.

Most people assume that women wear wigs and weaves because they don’t love and appreciate or their natural hair but research proves they couldn’t be more wrong! The number one reason why women wear wigs is to protect their natural hair.

Not every woman in a wig is bald or has bad hair underneath.

Wearing a wig or weave gives the natural hair a break from daily maintenance routines that may cause damage and weaken the hair such as heat, breakages, chemicals etc. Having to blow dry your hair every day or sit under a drier every week just so that you don’t walk around looking like you are having a never-ending bad hair day is a job and a half.

Such things do more harm than good to hair and that’s why they opt for wigs. In case of hair loss or damage, wearing wigs is a great way to protect the hair as it grows back or heals.

The fact of the matter is that lace front wigs look and feel better than natural hair. But this is not to say that we hate our God-given hair. Some women have kinky hair that freezes with the slightest hint of sweat, so wearing a wig or weave allows them to have straight hair that lasts throughout the day.

Others have really thin hair so wearing a wig or weave gives them more volume of hair thus looking and feeling great. So instead of struggling with our natural hair and losing confidence because of how our hair looks, why not embrace some hair extensions to boost our confidence?

And ladies, let’s not forget why we wear wigs in the first place, consult a hairdresser to get a wig that suits you (just because it looks good on someone else it doesn’t mean it will look good on you). Also inquire on how you can keep it looking fresh and care for your wig.

Don’t stay with that wig on for too long that it starts smelling and remember to give your hair a break from the wigs.
