Highlanders head coach Erol Akbay has expressed his unhappiness with his team’s display against defending PSL champions Chicken Inn at Barbourfields Stadium last Sunday.

The Dutchman, who watched some parts of the second half on the terraces after being sent off for violently pushing the ball on an opposition player who was taking time to take a throw in, said he could have given his side three days and they would have still not found the target.

“On Sunday, in that game, we could play three days, on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and we would have still not scored because it was not working that day,’’ said Akbay.

He said it would have been better to lose to Chicken Inn while playing better football. Akbay however, defended the selection of a Douglas Sibanda ahead of Erick Mudzingwa in midfield stating that the former was good at passing the ball.

“If you look we had to change this time from Erick to Douglas, the quality of Douglas is that he is the only player who can give good passes than any other player, that means if you need good passes in midfield you put Douglas, but if you need good defender in midfield then you need Erick. It depends how you want to play football on each day,’’ Akbay said, in an interview with freelance journalist Thandazani Zimbwa.

Captain Felix Chindungwe believes that they had not put 100 percent into the match against Chicken Inn. Chindungwe is convinced that how they react to the defeat will lay the foundation for a better display.

The loss saw Highlanders remain on 26 points, the same as FC Platinum who were victorious in Mutare on Sunday with the Bulawayo giants still on top of the log standings due to a superior goal difference.

Highlanders, who had gone nine matches without tasting defeat before the loss to Chicken Inn will look to bounce back to winning ways when they meet Triangle United at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.
