ONE of the country’s leading gospel music groups, Vocal Ex last Friday wowed the audience at a colourful fund raising dinner at a Bulawayo hotel.
Vocal Ex is a musical group of young people from around Bulawayo. The name was inspired by the group’s pastor friend and brother Victor Adams who was part of the Family of God Church before he moved overseas.
Vocal Ex is short for Vocal Extra-Ordinaire, it simply says the unified voice of the group is more than just being the epic presentation of its capabilities.
Vocal Ex is motivated to carry a message of unity, hope, peace and the love of God with a resounding melodious vocal authority, ministering the word of God through song across nations.
Led by Thembelani Mdlaziba, the group has toured expensively in and outside the country and plans are underway for an end of year tour to South Africa. The group is set to perform at the Northern Cape, Cape Town and Johannesburg. Before going to South Africa, the group will hold a concert in the city before the trip to South Africa and another one back home to close the year after the tour.
“Vocal Ex was born out of a burning passion for music and desire to share their God given musical talent in 2013 and held its first performance on 3 October 2013. We are a contemporary gospel choir of young, passionate and talented christian men and women.
“We are an inter-denominational music outfit. Our diversity is our strength, as talented young people bring different skills and knowledge to the team to complement and build the Vocal Ex family,” said Mdlaziba.
The group has also worked and shared the stage with a number of top gospel musicians including 2008 Africa Idols winner Erick Moyo, now a member of South Africa’s Celebration Choir together with Mkhululi Bhebhe, Avis Dlamini, Ayanda Shange, Takesure Zama Ncube, Pastor G, Ntokozo Mbambo, Nqubeko Mbatha, Dudu Manhenga, Mathias Mhere and ZimPraise, among others.
“We also need support from people of Bulawayo, businesses and those from outside Bulawayo to partner us so that we grow in God’s work. We have been sponsoring ourselves all along, though here and there some friends have chipped in, so we are appealing for partners as we prepare to tour South Africa and then close the year with a show here in Bulawayo,” he said.
