BULAWAYO City made it three wins in a row in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer after they defeated Tenax at Barbourfields Stadium yesterday.

The win will further enhance City’s chances of survival as the victory took them to 21 points, and above Tenax who drop down to second from bottom while Amakhosi moved to third off the drop zone.  Melikhaya Ncube, the Amakhosi skipper scored the only goal of the match in the 10th minute with a well taken strike inside the box after a lovely build up.

Tenax went on to create a lot of goal scoring opportunities, with their burly striker Malvern Dumbura failing to utilise two such chances. Dumbura had all the time in the world to equalise for his team only to blast his effort wide before his other goal attempt was blocked by Reward Muza in goals for City. Tafadzwa Zhakata had yet another chance to level for Tenax but shot wide.

Farai Tawachera, the Bulawayo City coach said they knew that a win takes them over their opponents.

“We are slowly getting there, one game at a time. Our target was to bring down this team in terms of points, we calculated they were on 20, we were on 18 so the key for us was to get the points as much as we can at all costs because if get three points we go on top of them,’’ Tawachera said.

He felt that they won against tough opponents who used the second ball to their advantage.

“This was a difficult game, a very difficult one, the opponents were good, they were moving very well, on the ball, off the ball good, they used the second ball to their best advantage but we knew they were coming with the second ball, we also worked on defending it but to be honest they are a very good side,’’ he said.

Shadreck Mugurasave, the Tenax coach decried the chances missed by his players and the failure to defend on the blind side.

“A very good game even though we missed a lot of chances, I am very disappointed about the result. In the first few minutes we conceded a silly goal, we failed to mark on the blind side,’’ Mugurasave said.
