THE registration date for Zimbabwe Women Super League has been extended to the end of week to give clubs time before elections are held on 22 October.

Zifa vice-president Omega Sibanda said they would be sticking to the date originally set in July adding some teams have already registered.

The deadline was on Friday but Sibanda said they have extended it by a week.

He pointed out that they need a minimum number of eight clubs for the election to go ahead.

Sibanda said they would revisit the 2014 Super League and invite teams who were part of that structure to come on board but new teams are also welcome.

“We will engage the teams that were in the Super League then to see if they are willing and have the financial capacity to crisscross the country fulfilling fixtures and then we make additions,” he said.

The registered teams will vote for a committee of six that will run the women’s national league.

Sibanda said it was important to note that the constitution clearly stated that only women were eligible to take up position on the league’s committee.

He said it was imperative that those taking part in elections come from clubs to ensure they effectively run their affairs.

Sibanda said according to the statutes the chairperson of the women’s soccer league heads the Zimbabwe Women Football standing committee that would be responsible for running different women football programmes that include development.

Other members of the committee do not necessarily have to come from the league executive.

The tenure of the previous ZWF committee that was appointed on an interim basis by Zifa ended on Friday.

Elizabeth Langa led the previous executive with Cecilia Gambe deputising her while Rosemary Muzvidza and Beaulah Msara were committee members.
