ZIMBABWE International Film Festival (ZIFF) Trust festival director, Elton Mjanana has made a passionate call for Bulawayo filmmakers to participate in the 18th annual edition of the Zimbabwe International Film Festival taking place from 1-8 October.
“I encourage Bulawayo filmmakers to participate especially if they are interested in making it in the international film scene,” Mjanana said.
“We got some interesting entries from Bulawayo last year and it would be nice to tap into that vibrant atmosphere again this year,”
Mjanana referred to Bulawayo filmmakers such as Nigel Ndlovu and Tswarelo Mothabi as “young, dynamic and look to the future type of people” and he hoped to see more of these emerge from the city.
Mjanana said the competition is open to all filmmakers locally, regionally and internationally, be they film students, film professionals or anyone else with an appreciation of film.
ZIFF urged participation of local entries, saying they compare more favourably to international entries received from India, Japan and the United States.
Running under the theme “Reel, Sound and Music”, Mjanana says this year’s edition of the festival seeks to highlight the role of music in producing high quality films.
Entrants are advised to submit their entries either online or physically.
Application forms are available on the Zimbabwe International Film Festival website. Entries close on 31 August.
