BULAWAYO mayor Councillor Solomon Mguni has applauded two young entrepreneurs who have donated 1000 litres of hydrogen peroxide to council, a disinfectant which will go a long way in the city’s Covid-19 response.
The two, Miss Grace Anne Ndlovu (22) and Mr Bhekusiko Bhebhe (26) decided to play their part in the fight against Covid-19 by donating the disinfectant to council last week.
Hydrogen peroxide, a chemical compound which can be used to clean surfaces, can kill the coronavirus.
Miss Ndlovu is the founder and chief executive officer of Own Your Dream Foundation while Mr Bhebhe is the founder of Motivational HITS Academy.
Clr Mguni, who received the donation on behalf of the local authority, said the gesture is welcome and will go a long way in fighting against Covid-19
”As the city of Bulawayo we deeply appreciate this gesture as we learn that there are still young leaders even during this difficult times of Covid-19 who still think of their city, it shows that they are true leaders,” said Clr Mguni.
Miss Ndlovu thanked the mayor for opening doors for them.
“We met in Sandton, South Africa for a business symposium where the need to give back to our communities was emphasized and since then, Covid-19 was at its peak in our city then we realised that we have to make a project that will help our city as a whole. We came with the idea to buy hydrogen peroxide as a way to help in the fight against Covid-19. With the help of fellow Zimbabweans in the diaspora, particularly, Austrian based artist Vusa Mkhaya, the initiative was always going to be a success, “she said.
BCC divisional environmental health officer, Mrs Sikhanyisile Sibanda, said the donation was appreciated by the city as they use hydrogen peroxide to disinfect.
“This donation of hydrogen peroxide will go a long way in terms of assisting the community because when we spray it in surfaces it kills viruses and stop them from spreading to the next person, so it is a good donation and we appreciate that young people have come to think of their city. We use hydrogen peroxide on our facilities and when there are Covid-19 deaths our teams spray the hydrogen peroxide around for disinfecting,” said Mrs Sibanda.
