Thembelani Ncube, wife of Sizo Dube, a well-known member of the Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP), has gone into hiding following a series of threats and attacks against her and her family. The couple, who resided in the peaceful suburb of Pumula, had their home turned into a political hub for party members, attracting attention from authorities.

Dube’s involvement in the MRP, where he played a crucial role in mobilising new party members and organising demonstrations in Bulawayo, brought unwanted attention to their modest house. As the 2023 harmonised elections loomed, the house became a bustling center for party activities, with members donning their party regalia and strategizing for the upcoming political battle.

Unfortunately, this newfound political fervor drew the attention of local authorities who accused the couple of holding illegal political meetings without proper clearance from the police. As tensions escalated, Dube was apprehended by the authorities, leading to a series of harrowing events for his wife, Ncube.

During the arrest, Thembelani Ncube alleges that she was sexually harassed and threatened against reporting the incident to the police. These distressing encounters did not end there, as Ncube and her grandchild, Thato Mbano became targets of frequent attacks in their own neighborhood. Fearing for their safety, Ncube made the difficult decision to go into hiding, leaving her grandchild in the care of trusted neighbours.

One concerned neighbour, who wishes to remain anonymous, disclosed that Ncube had confided in them about her fears of constant attacks and the possibility of being arrested like her husband. “She left her grandchild with us, saying she needed to go into town, but we knew she was desperately seeking safety,” the neighbour shared.

Since his supposed arrest Dube has also still not been located.

The community in Pumula has been left shocked and saddened by the turn of events. Local leaders and human rights organizations have called for an immediate investigation into the alleged harassment and threats faced by Ncube. They are also demanding increased security measures to protect individuals involved in political activities.

As the story unfolds, it raises important questions about the state of democracy and freedom of expression in Zimbabwe. The safety and well-being of political activists and their families should be a top priority for authorities, ensuring that they can exercise their democratic rights without fear of persecution.

The search for Ncube continues, and concerned citizens hope that she will find the safety and justice she seeks in these troubling times.
