PROMINENT Gweru-based businesswoman and chief executive of River Valley Properties, Dr Smelly Dube yesterday distanced herself from the structures of the newly formed political party, National Patriotic Front (NPF), led by Brigadier-General Ambrose Mutunhiri (Retired).

Reports have been circulating on social media about what is believed to be the presidium structure of the new political oufit, which is said to have the blessings of former President Robert Mugabe.

In an interview yesterday, Dr Dube said she was shocked by what she described as “false” reports doing rounds on social media claiming she was part of the new project.

She said she was not active in politics and never had contact with the leaders of the new party.

“I think the report which is circulating on social media is a wishful creation by my detractors who want to drag my name into the mud. As you might be aware I have never been in any political structure and have never wished to be in any political structure.

I am concentrating on my business and never at any point thought of getting into active politics,” she said.

Dr Dube said she was concentrating on her business and was in support of the ruling Zanu-PF Government led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“I am a businesswoman and what I am doing is I am supporting the Government of today through job creation in my housing projects. I am also seized with my philanthropic work and people should not smear my name by dragging me into politics,” she said.

Rtd Brig-Gen Mutinhiri is said to be mobilising the former G40 cabal into his political outfit and is said to be desperate to appeal to the people.
