A 42-YEAR-OLD Plumtree man received a thorough beating in front of his family from his neighbour who allegedly caught him with his wife at night.
Phindani Nyoni (42), who works as a driver at Golden Harmony Supermarket, told our reporter that Justice Makoni (30) severely beat him on the face, temporarily blinding him in the process.

Makoni first beat up Nyoni after reportedly catching him in his matrimonial bedroom. He then called Nyoni’s wife, Nonhlanhla Dube (26), who was waiting for her husband at their home, telling her that he had caught her husband in his house.

He then dragged Nyoni to his home which is a few metres away and beat him up for the second time in full view of his children.

Makoni is reported to have intercepted love chats between his wife, Siphathisiwe Ngwenya (29) and Nyoni on his wife’s cellphone on 7 November at around 10pm.

He ordered his wife to summon her lover to their house in Hebron area under the pretence that her husband was not around.

An eager Nyoni is reported to have proceeded to the house only to find that Makoni had set a trap for him.

He went into Makoni’s matrimonial bedroom and made himself comfortable on the bed before Makoni emerged from his hiding place and attacked him.

Nyoni, however, said on the night he was attacked he had gone to Dube’s house to collect her application forms for a job at around 10pm. He said Makoni followed him after he had left the house and started assaulting him.

“Nyoni dragged me into his house and he took a radio speaker and hit me with it on my face. He alleged that I was having an affair with his wife and that he had intercepted whatsapp messages between me and his wife.

“I tried to explain that there was no such thing and that I was only assisting his wife to secure a job where I work. He did not understand and went on to punch me instead,” said Nyoni.

He alleged that after the first beating, Makoni then ordered his wife to embrace Nyoni and took a picture of them. He said an enraged Makoni ordered his wife to pack her clothes after indicating that he was taking her to her lover’s house.

“All of this happened in the full view of my wife and my children which left me embarrassed. Makoni picked up a wooden chair and hit me with it on the head. The blow was just too severe and I fell to the ground unconscious,” said Makoni.

He said when he woke up he could hardly see as his eyes were swollen. He said Makoni then force-marched him to the police station where he claimed to have caught him red-handed on his matrimonial bed.

Nyoni said he was admitted to Plumtree District Hospital for three days.

Makoni is expected to appear in court facing a charge of assault. He will be advised of his court date by way of summons as investigations were still under way.
