CHIVI and Masvingo Rural District councils are working on a $350 000 development master plan which will be used to guide investment opportunities centred around the Tokwe Mukorsi dam.

The dam project is now 96 percent complete and is expected to be commissioned early next year. It is at the border of Masvingo and Chivi districts.

Chivi Rural District Council chief executive officer Mr Tariro Matavire said the crafting of a master plan was work in progress.

He said the development plan will save as a template for the district through which all investment opportunities will be explored.

“The drafting of master plan is work in progress. We have already started the process and this week we will have a meeting as two RDCs which will also be graced by other Government officials and private partners. The estimated cost for the master plan is $350 000,” said Mr Matavire.

He said the councils have made a resolution to raise the money towards the master plan and expressed optimism that it will be a success. He said their aim was to transform the districts into investment destinations of choice in areas of tourism, wildlife, fisheries, irrigation development, among other sectors.

Masvingo Rural District Council chief executive officer Mr Martin Mubviro also confirmed the progress saying the master plan will be done in phases. Upon its completion, Tokwe-Mukorsi will have the capacity to irrigate 25 000 hectares.
